Reasons to find the Goodness of Enhanced Community Quarantine 2020

The Beginning

The forecast about the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) declared by the Office of the Republic of the Philippines for the whole country because of the pandemic coronavirus (COVID 19) is a surprise. The quarantine will start on March 15, 2020 until the further announcement. It shocks and upset more Filipinos because of the shutdown of many companies and businesses. Employees have to stop their work and went home to their respective cities. No work, no pay policy to others while some got their early bonuses from their employers. However, the safety of the people is the priority of the ECQ. We cannot change the fact that when we neglect the situation, many will be wiped out by the virus. If people will look at the negative side, it will be a disaster and continues loss but looking into it as an opportunity will make this ECQ still a blessing.

Take Your Time

Looking back, overloaded work minimizes the time for own self like lack of sleep, and sometimes, the break is never enough. Weekends or day off run so fast and did not felt a rest day. Family day is inadequate, and children feel inadvertent from parents. The ECQ requires stay at home policy. Stay at home make all rest more than they need unlike breaks. The situation now gives more time to parents and children bonding moments. This time is free time to organize the house and the things inside.

This Should be an Opportunity

Yes, the ECQ is an opportunity for all that have the skills but never work it out. This time is the outbreak not just of the virus but on the internet communication world. You can work over the web using your ready gadgets on the house. The cellphone that you use on gaming when you are free on work can be used as a medium of income. Your personal laptop that use on making office reports is a big help to make working online more convenient. The internet that you consume in connection with social media is now your edge to access different websites that show hiring updates. These opportunities make a difference, and sometimes exceeds your previous income.

Working at home

Make a Difference

Time past by easily and the body you preserve will weaken and when retirement age comes, we have no choice but to pack up and receive the minimum separation pay from the employer. By that time, you are not that strong for activities that you and your child can do. You almost spent more than of your life span in the company more than to your family in the house.

While having work over the web in the comfort of your own house together with your family is an option. No heavy traffics, no rainy and sunny days outside since you are inside your house, not requiring bags, shoes, perfumes, new pants or suit, and sometimes not requiring office attire since you just work at home and your face is the only appearance see by your client. Even you had the disability physically but with skills and talent, you can be hired over the web and start earning on your own basis.

Making Any Sense?

Of course, the choice is within you. Corporate world or work at home? Corporate world needs investment of finances for transportation, for everyday allowance, for new clothes and require work attire etc. Work at home requires cash too, from the internet connections, laptop, telephone or cellphone, noise cancelling headset, and your time of committed work. Whatever choice, you make, you need financial related issues. However, make sure that the pleasure of the decision you will make you happy and comfortable. Just to mention, after the effects of the pandemic to the nation, many Filipinos from different provinces of the country who conquer the challenges on working in Metro Manila decided to go back on their respective provinces for good. While working at home did not require travel and sacrifice to work far from their families.

So now, do it make any sense of thinking what is better for now and for your tomorrow?

Parenting Challenges Faced Due to Separation

A girl reading a book alone

To leave your child behind is extremely difficult! For parents just like me, there’s no such thing as worst feeling but being separated from our children. Nevertheless, this agony can be overcome and resolved if only we, parents will find ways to keep in touch and get connected with our kids.

Parting Time

The heartbreaking moment.

For some reasons, there comes a time that a parent needs to leave his/ her child behind. This, exactly, is what happened to me. I had to leave my boy in his father’s care to deal with important matters way back to my hometown (we were all living overseas that time before I left). It was not easy. Seeing him crying and helplessly wanting to come along me was really heartbreaking.

Mental and Emotional Torture.

Mental Torture

As I moved towards the airport entrance, I tried not to look back. It was my first time to leave my boy and be separated from him since his birth. As a result, my precious baby was crying, helplessly and endlessly.

My mind was filled with uncertainties, fears and confusions. Thus, the horrible feeling covered my whole being. I was so scared by the thoughts that I might not see him again if ever bad things happened while we’re apart, unfortunately.

Mixed Emotions

Thinking that my boy would grow up not having me around, he might as well feel like I abandoned him. I was worried on how he’s going to face waking up each day without me by his side. And that to live each day without his mother to comfort and guide him would bring negative impact on all the aspects of his life.

I wanted to go back as my heart was aching. It felt like it was just a while and I already missed him and wanted to hug him, make him feel how much I love him. But, it’s too late! And in spite of feeling the urge to turn back, I had no choice but to embrace the pain and hoped that I would see my boy again, soon.

The airplane took off and I can no longer change what happened. It’s done! I’m far away from home, and from my boy. Yet, in my heart, I’m sure that he will always be there. He will always have me despite of the distance between us.

Challenges Faced by Parents When Separated from Children:

As days passed, I realize how hard it is for a parent like me to be apart from my child. There are lots of problems and challenges to deal with. For instance:

1.Scarcity of time

As we’re living in two different countries with different time zone, it’s difficult to find much time to communicate with my child. Day time in my place and night time in his, vice versa. Such a difficult situation to adapt with. Similarly, a hard condition to be adjusted to. My time has always been limited as I need to go to work during the day. On the other hand, he needs to do his homework at night and sleep early for school the next day. Needless to say, we could not talk much the way we did before.

2 Feeling of Loss

Having used to living along with family gives a remarkable impact. The longing and yearning for loved ones’ love and affection can’t be denied. It gives that feeling of sadness, being alone and emptiness. Most importantly, my life feels so incomplete without my loved ones around.

3.Failing to impart moral values.

Although we know that children can learn from school, values taught and learned from home can’t be surpassed. Parents have always said to be the most capable of teaching good values to children as well as they have the best way of making them understand, too. However, due to separation, most parents find themselves unable to do so.

4.Life Imbalance

Not living with the family and kids is overwhelming because of so much work to do..  Lots of things need to be done around the house and we resent over doing them, alone. We miss that family life when we used to share with them our time and help as needed. Regardless of having friends around still, feeling of longing and needing to be with partner and foremost, with children is undeniable.

5.Lack of Emotional Bonding.

From pregnancy to giving birth and raising your children, you are there. You got close to your kids, became attached with them and shared with their life as they’re growing up. However, due to separation, such bond regressed and reduced.

Distance from home deprives you the opportunity to spend time with the kids . As a result, we become unable of seeing their happiness, feel their sorrow and witness their emotions before every situation. We don’t get the chance to help with their problems and difficulties nor share with their joy and achievements. We lose emotional intimacy with our kids. The feeling of emotional detachment with one another gives discomfort and anxiety which makes one feels like there’s something missing.

Ways For Parents to Overcome these Challenges.

1.Be happy.

As they say, you smile and the whole world smiles with you. When you are happy, everything comes to be easy. Your joy will reflect on others, too. A happy parent gives off energy and pass it on to his/her children. Thus, the state of separation comes to be easy to adapt with and carry through.

2.Stay positive.

Positivity is one of great factors affecting relationship between parents and children. Parents who believe in love and good fate bring positive attitude towards life and everything that happens. Thus, it’s easy for the children to trust that the act of separation is just temporary and positively acknowledge the reasons behind it.

3.Be constant in finding time to communicate. Fill in the gap. Keep emotional intimacy and attachment.

Despite of the distance, your children can hardly feel the absence of their parents. That is if you find ways to bridge that gap between you and your kids. In order to do so, you shall try the following:

Means to Make Way for Communication

  • Send texts and messages, video cam with them, and phone your kids every time you find the chance. In this world of advanced technology, it’s easier for parents to communicate with children using the wonders of internet  and telephone to make them feel that you always think and care for them.
  • Talk to them more often. Grab every opportunity to speak with your children even during your busy times. A simple “hello” and “how are you” or ” I love you” will do, for instance. Constantly, make them feel your concern and love for them by telling them how much you thought about them or miss them. Most of all, never ever fail to tell them how much you love them.

Fill In the gap

  • Share their thoughts. Listen to their problems and difficulties they experience in school and with friends. Advise and guide them accordingly in finding solutions to their problems. Help them solve these problems as much as you can.

Stay attached and connected.

  • Monitor their activities. Never fail to check on their study habits, school performance and daily school tasks. Ask about their daily routine in the house, internet activities and how they spend time with friends. Being far from your kids doesn’t need to be a reason for you to lose control over them nor to fail giving them the right discipline they need.
  • Find joy in being with them despite of the distance. Share their joy and success. Even if you’re distant apart, you can still praise and acknowledge their success and achievement. Likewise, make them know how proud and happy you are with everything they achieve in school or in the house. A simple “like” on face book or “remarks” on the comments will do.

4.Lastly, keep reminding your kids the values taught at home and in school. Help them understand these values and make them act accordingly.

  • Be consistent on reminding your child good values you taught them. Make them understand the importance of these values and how they can benefit from them as they grow and develop as an integrated individual. Have these values be their guide on making wise choices, right decisions and good actions.

That’s it! Being away from your kids will always be that hard. Yet, finding effort and the right means to bridge the gap by following above ways, you can most likely make them feel your presence even if you’re not there…. around!

If you have access to planting soil, start growing your vegetables from your kitchen scraps. Lettuce, celery, cabbage, and bokchoy are some of the easiest vegetables you can grow at home. Cut off the base of these vegetables and put them in a shallow jar or bowl with just a bit of water. After 3-4 days, you will notice roots and new leaves starting to appear from the cutting. Transplant the vegetable carefully into a pot of soil. Tend to it by watering and putting it in sunlight and in just a few weeks, you get to enjoy fresh leafy vegetables. This planting technique works with leeks and various herbs as well.

Don’t despair if you can’t get planting soil as you can still grow vegetables using just water. Watch these lettuce and bean sprouts growing videos to learn more.

A memory pillow cover is one of the best quarantine home projects you can do. It is fun and such a great way to showcase all the shirts you’ve collected over the years like travel souvenir shirts, graphic tees, and branded logo ones. To start, turn your shirt inside out and insert your throw pillow inside. Ensure that the shirt’s design is strategically positioned to your liking. Pin the shirt all around except the bottom part. Carefully remove the pillow and begin sewing a line along the pinned edges. Cut off the excess fabric. Take some Velcro and sew it on the bottom part of the shirt to secure the pillow inside. View the step-by-step guide here. If you want a No-Sew option, check this out.

6 Steps to Help You Build Online Career at Home.

We all have that life-changing event that diverts us from our current plan. Some people its marriage or an opportunity abroad. To others, they change their plans because of sudden death in the family or a life-changing disease, or just like most of us right now, its the Covid19 pandemic lockdown. But for me, its finally having a baby after eight years of married life.

Two months ago, I gave up the company I co-founded and started the journey to be a stay at home dad. This decision just became so timely since the COvid19 lockdown forced almost everyone to be at home. Today I get to stay at home, running my own e-commerce business while also having a part-time job online.

Today I’m going to share with you 6 steps to help you build your online career at home.

First, start with a personal inventory.

  1. List down your fixed expenses, payments, and needs. Listing your expenses will help you determine how much you should be earning.
  2. What are your resources at the moment? Do you have a laptop or a desktop computer? Do you have a good connection?
  3. List down your top 3 strengths. Ask your self this question: What value can I offer to my clients or customers?
If you have experience in writing, you can prepare yourself to apply for writing-related jobs.
If you have skills in Photoshop, video editing, or web design, then you can start to look for such jobs online. You must start your online career according to your skills and strengths so that you will be more confident.

Second, make a plan. Are you going to work as a virtual assistant or a home-based call center agent? Or are you starting a home-based online business? Just remember that no matter how you start, you must start with the skills and the resources that you have.

Either you apply for an online job first while gradually building your online business or start your online business at once. While on the sideline, apply an online job that does not require too much of your time. Remember, your goal is to stay at home and spend more time with your family. It will be ironic that you’re at home, but you don’t have enough time for your family.

Third, work your plan. If it’s a job you’re looking for, begin looking for jobs and send applications to as many agencies as you can. Then set up your work area and set your daily goals. It’s better to have a home office so that you will maintain your productivity at home. Never stop until you get your first goal.

If you are planning to start a free lance work as your staging point to building online career at home, here are some link to help you start.

You can also do direct to these websites :,, teaching related jobs :, or or you can just google them and don stop until you find the job that you are looking for.

If its online business that your planning to start you can go to Youtube and search for business ideas or get some free Ecommerce , FBads trainings at // and

F0urth, you must set your monthly, quarterly and annual goals. Having goals will set your phasing as you progress and work your way up to your financial goals.

Fifth, establish your vision. To help you write a vision for your self, “where will I be three years from now?”. Visualize your vision by writing them down and even printing the pictures of your ideal life that you are building while at home.

Lastly, find a mentor. This is optional, but I added this here because this worked for me. Your mentor can be someone you know that already has what you vision in the future and who is willing to teach you the basic steps. Or, You can get a mentor in the form of an accomplished online guru such as Robert Kiyosaki or follow John Pagulayan’s page. There are a lot of sources out there that you can follow and learn from.

Whatever you do, and however you do it, I hope you succeed in building your income while staying at home. There will be a lot of challenges along the way, but as long as you don’t give up and consistently give your best, that day will come that your future self will thank you for making that step to succeed financially while being close to the very inspiration why you should succeed.

Hospitals usually have their specialists and experts dealing with babies. They can help you on the feeding basics may it be nursing or bottle feeding. Nurses can also show you how to hold, carry, burp, change, bathe and take care of your baby.

At home, you may want to hire a nurse or nanny , experienced and responsible enough to help you take care of the baby while giving yourself an opportunity to regain your strength. Your relatives or family can be of help too as they have had more experiences with their babies before you.

Handling the baby with care.

This, also gives an opportunity to a baby-parent physical closeness and attachment.

Babies love sounds. While cradling your baby, try talking to your baby or make babbling sounds or even recite poetry or nursery rhymes. These enhance bonding while stimulate the baby’s hearing. When putting him to sleep, try singing your baby a song to give him a calming, soothing feeling of security, warmth and affection.

Circumcision and Umbilical Cord

Safety Tips to Remember

After circumcision, the tip of the penis is covered with gauze. It’s also coated with petroleum jelly to prevent it from sticking to the diaper.

When changing diaper, gently wipe the tip of the penis to clean it. Apply petroleum jelly to keep it from sticking to the diaper. Do it in every diaper change. Once redness and swelling increase and pus-filled blisters are form, call the doctor immediately. This can be a result of infection.

It’s important that umbilical cord is well taken cared of. Clean and swab the area with rubbing alcohol until it dries and falls off. Remember to keep the navel from being submerged in water. This is until the umbilical cord falls off and the area is healed.

The umbilical cord normally changes its color to yellow, brown or black. Once it turns red accompanied with foul odor, call your doctor in no time.

Feeding and Burping

When to Feed Your Baby

It is always recommended to feed the baby whenever he’s hungry. You’ill know that your baby is hungry when he is crying, putting his fingers inside his mouth or making sucking noises. Newly born babies need to be fed every 2-3 hours. If you’re breastfeeding, let the baby feed 10-15 minutes at each breast. Sometimes, babies need to be awakened every few hours. This is to make sure they get enough food they need. When breastfeeding, you will know if the baby gets enough to eat when he changes diaper often, sleeps well or gain weight. Another hint to know is when the breast feels full before feeding and becomes less full after feeding.

Babies swallow air during feedings making them fussy. To prevent this, burp your baby often.

Burping Tips.

  • Hold your baby upright with his head on your shoulder.
  • Support the baby’s head and back while gently patting his back with your other hand.
  • Sit your baby on your lap. Support your baby’s chest and head with one hand by cradling his chin in the palm of your hand and resting the heel of your hand on your baby’s chest.
  • Be careful to grip his chin and not his throat.
  • Use the other hand to pat his back gently.
  • If your baby doesn’t burp after a few minutes, try changing his position and try burping him again for another few minutes before feeding him again.
  • Always burp your baby when feeding time is over. Keep him in an upright position to prevent him from spitting up.

Sleeping Basics

Babies usually sleep 2-4 hours as they need to be nourished every few hours. That’s why they are to be awakened if haven’t fed for four hours or more. Babies sleep in the night for 6-8 hours at 3 months of age. Sometimes, they don’t as they also must develop their sleeping patterns and cycles just like adults. Besides, as long as the baby is healthy and gaining weight, then it would not be an issue of great concern.

Sleeping Practices to Observe for Baby’s Safety

It is important to remember to make your baby sleep on his back in order to avoid sudden infant death syndrome or SIDS. Also, be sure to change or alternate your baby’s head position during sleeps to avoid development of flat spot on one side of the head. Other safety sleeping practice to consider is avoiding the use of baby blankets, quilts, sheepskins, stuff toys and many pillows inside the crib as these may suffocate the baby during sleep. Another is to share your room with the baby for a period of at least 6 months to 1 year to ensure safety and security. This will likewise, help develop trust, promotes closeness and attachment.

Baby’s Sleeping Hours and Routine

Newborns change their sleeping patterns , many times. At times, they tend to be more awake at night and sleep more during the day. This happens to be very difficult for a parent especially for a left-alone mom or dad. To help your newly born baby with his sleeping routine, try to minimize stimulation during the night. You may set the light dim and reduce your baby activity with your newborn. During the day, you can keep him awake a little longer by playing and talking.

Yes, Indeed!

Whether or not you’re still lacking confidence on how to handle your baby or feeling anxious about how to take care of him more effectively, one thing is sure: that someday, you will be able to manage your baby and do parenting like a pro! And more significantly, it will always be a remarkable and rewarding experience being a parent, lifetime!

How to Manage Your Debt Effectively

How to control your debts

Are you one of those who can’t resist sales from big department stores during payday?

Have you tried convincing yourself that you don’t need a new bag, shoes or the latest cellphone model yet buy them anyway because they’re on sale?

Businesses have made shopping and payment easy and convenient to attract more clients and entice them to spend more.

 You are not alone.

Because companies are making it so easy and convenient to borrow money, most people are finding it hard to say no. Take for example when you scout for a car. Car dealers now offer very low down payments for a brand new car. For as low as P50, 000.00, you can bring home your dream car with a lot of freebies that go with it. Most importantly, you can pay for the balance with a car loan in their easy in-house financing scheme. Easy peasy, right?

Wait, how about that LV bag? It’s on 50% sale! Oh, this dress is so beautiful and it’s 20% off! And those shoes would pair nicely with this dress! Look, it’s buy 1 take 1 for that lipstick! Let me use my credit card. Ka-ching!!!

Before you even know what came over you, you have accumulated enough debts that go beyond your capacity to pay. Then the notice of payments and calls from the bank or credit company started coming in. What to do?

Good Debts and Bad Debts

If you find yourself in this situation, here’s the good news! Not all debts are bad and knowing the difference might just save you from being buried deeper into it. It will also help you plan your purchases in the future. So what is a good and bad debt?

Good debts are debts that have a potential return on your money. Simply put, you get something good out of it.  Educational loans and business loans are examples of this debt.

Bad debts, on the other hand, include credit card debts and loans that have no potential return on your money. Examples of this debt are buying a new high-end gadget and borrowing money to finance your vacation.

Steps to Manage your Debts

Debt is the worst poverty.

Thomas Fuller

This is the most noteworthy description of debt. Most of us fall into debt and don’t know how to get out of it. Oftentimes, we found ourselves sinking into poverty because of the accumulated loans. Without any means to pay, we consequently resort to borrowing more and more.

If you don’t take action immediately, you may find yourself driven into bankruptcy and losing everything you value. Debt is often the reason why many families fall apart. But there are ways to get out of it. It will take a lot of discipline, self-control, as well as effort and time on your part but perseverance is the only way you can free yourself from debt. Here’s how:

1. Don’t get into more debts to pay off your current debts.

Tighten your belt and don’t spend more than you can make.

2. As much as possible, pay off your credit card debts in full and on time to avoid high interest.

The typical monthly interest rate of 3.5% on credit cards can add up to 42% in a year. Remember, interest rates are compounding. If your income does not increase with your spending, it can drain your money faster than you can earn it.

3. Always pay in cash.

By doing this, you control your spending and monitor your expenses better. Maintain one or two credit cards to be used strictly for emergencies.

4. Change your habit of spending to habit of saving.

Evaluate your lifestyle. Don’t spend your money on luxuries, instead spend it on necessities like food, insurance, and utilities. Priorities, people!

5. Make a list of all your debts and pay them off one at a time.

Pay the debt with a low balance but high interest first to eliminate it.

6. Change your mindset about money.

Stop believing that debt will solve all your money problems. It won’t.

7. Increase your cash flow.

Make use of your talents and skills to earn additional income.

8. Consider using your savings

Consider your savings and non-income generating assets to pay off your high-interest debts. Once you’re done paying, you can start saving again.

9. Use your bonuses to prepay your mortgages.

This will shorten the time that you will have to pay for them and eliminate your debts sooner.

10. Invest time in financial education.

Stop thinking that financial education is only for the wealthy. Most people fail because they lack knowledge of how money works.

If you are born poor, it’s not your fault. But if you die poor, it’s your fault.

Bill Gates

Finally, you must remember that you are responsible for your future. Nobody can help you unless you help yourself. Debt can become an obstruction and can control your life. If you want to get out of debt, discipline and educate yourself. Learn how to make your money work for you. Many free courses on the internet will teach you how to invest in stocks. Debt is not the solution. Take action and control your debts or debts will control you.
